*Antes de nada, ¿cómo estáis? Entre la extensa gira que estáis haciendo, la presentación del último álbum Assassine(s) y el lanzamiento del nuevo single “Il se vide lentement” , se puede decir que no tenéis un minuto de descanso
Gracias por preguntar! nos sentimos cargados de energía y apasionados por este intenso momento que estamos viviendo, aunque es cierto que tenenos una agenda non stop, la adrenalina y la conexión que sentimos con nuestros fans es lo que sin lugar a dudas nos ayuda a mantenernos motivados e inspirados.
*Para esa gente que todavía no os conoce, o no lo suficiente, ¿cómo describiríais a Celeste?
Somos una banda de metal francesa. Nuestra música es una mezcla de varios géneros como black metal, post-hardcore, doom, shoegaze y mas cosas. Intentamos desarrollar escenarios sonoros muy inmesivos. Ponemos nuestra alma en cada actuación, con la intención de crear una experiencia que resuene profundamente con nuestro público. Nuestros sonidos son como un viaje a través de la luz y la oscuridad. Planteamos nuestra música como algo honesto, intenso y original.
* En los últimos años tuvisteis la ocasión de tocar en tierras gallegas en un par de ocasiones, ¿Qué tal fueron las experiencias? Os aseguro que por estas latitudes vuestros fans os están esperando de nuevo
Tocar en Galicia ha sido una experiencia inolvidable para nosotros. El calor y pasión de sus gentes nos dejó profundamente impactados. Podemos asegurar que dejaron huella, y que estamos ansiosos por volver y compartir nuestra música por ahí una vez mas!
*Como comentaba al principio, echando un vistazo a las fechas de vuestra gira, se puede ver que estáis teniendo un verano movidito, en el cual como “broche final” estaréis en nuestro país tocando en San Sebastián y en la vecina Porto, en Portugal, a mediados de septiembre. Ahora que nos encontramos con más de la mitad del tour hecho, ¿podéis compartir alguna de vuestras impresiones hasta la fecha?
Este verano ha sido como un torbellino de energía e increíbles experiencias. Hemos tenido la suerte de tocar en festivales de renombre como Hellfest, Full force, Alcatraz, FEQ, donde hemos conocido artistas impresionantes. Cada noche lo damos todo en el escenario, buscando forjar una conexión con nuestro público. El tour ha reforzado nuestra pasión por la música y reafirmado el poder de la música en directo. Esa es la razón por la que hemos empezado a tocar, y sentimos como que es mejor de lo que pensábamos.
*Personalmente, la primera vez que disfruté de vuestro show fue en HELLFEST 2018, y aunque fue tal y como me esperaba, ese año no pudimos disfrutar de vuestras características “luces rojas”. Me sentí como que quedaba “algo pendiente” y tuvo que ser en la famosa edición de este mismo festival, a la que llamaron “Hellfest from home”, donde desde nuestras casas os pudimos ver tocando en el Reino de Muscadet, con una ambientación ideal y ya si de esta vez con vuestro característico elemento. Pero desde casa, seguía sin sentir que disfrutaba completamente de lo que podíais ofrecer. Hasta que por fin el año pasado en el Resurrection Fest, ¡por fin pudo ser! Con vuestra música y puesta en escena conseguís trasladar a quienes os observan a la profundidad de vuestro sonido, deleitando a lxs que ya os conocían, y atrayendo a la gente que os está conociendo en ese mismo momento. Y este año en el Hellfest se volvió a confirmar. Ahora viene la pregunta: ¿Qué hay tras esas luces rojas? ¿Cuál es su historia?
Nos alegra saber que has disfrutado de nuestros shows, y estoy deacuerdo contigo que esas condiciones son muy importantes para tener la experiencia completa de lo que intentamos ofrecer. Desafortunadamente no siempre es perfecto pero el del Resurrection Fest fue un gran directo para nosotros.
Las luces rojas se han convertido en una representación simbolica sobre la profundidad de nuestra música. Cuando nos subimos al escenario, nosotros tratamos de envolver al público con nuestro universo sonoro, y las luces rojas amplifican la intensidad del sentimiento de nuestro sonido. Nos ayudan a combinar la oscuridad y la introspección presente en nuestra música. Creemos que representan bastante bien nuestro estado mental. Lo que en un principio empezó como un reclamo rapidamente se convirtió en una parte importante de nuestra imagen.
*Ya que hablamos de festivales y conciertos, ¿hay alguno que os haya marcado más que ningún otro? ¿Cuál es la anécdota más loca que os pasó estando de gira?
Aunque cada concierto tiene un lugar único en nuestro corazón, el RESURRECTION FEST fue particularmente significativo. La energía del público, la conexión que sentimos, y la atmosfera global que se creó lo convirtió en una experiencia única. Para ser honesto o esperabamos nada en especial, así que nos quedamos un poco impactados por como se dieron las cosas.
Como anécdota curiosa, honestamente despues de estar girando durante casi 2 décadas ten por seguro que tenemos mas que de sobra, pero siendo honestos la mayoría no son cosaes que se puedan contar por aquí haha! Se me viene una a la memoria y es de algún modo entrañable. Vamos a decir que me estoy riendo al saber que muchos policías de aduanas llevan nuestro merch por toda Europa sin tener ni idea de la música que hacemos, únicamente porque hemos tenido que sobornarles para poder cruzar la frontera, y es algo que nos pasó muchas veces en muchos países.
*Cambiando un poco de tercio, ya está disponible la preorder de vuestro próximo álbum EPILOGUE(S), que se lanzará en un par de meses. ¿Podéis contarnos algo sobre él?
EPILOGUE(S) sirve de continuación a ASSASSINE(S)… Es algo interesante para nosotros porque esos tres cortes son totalmente diferentes. Fue difícil encontrar un lugar para ellas en el álbum, es por eso que están aquí ahora, pero eso no significa para nosotros que sean mas flojas. El álbum probablemente habría sido demasiado denso con ellas, por lo que son mejores y mas potentes aquí en este formato mas pequeño.
*Contáis ya con unos cuantos álbumes ya a vuestra espalda, seguro que cada uno tiene su “niño bonito”, el que más disfruta tocando. Si os pregunto por vuestro favorito, ¿qué me contestaríais?
Cada álbum es un capítulo en nuestra historia, y mientras es todo un reto escoger nuestra favorita, «Morte(s) Neé(s)» ocupa un lugar especial. Marcó un punto crucial en nuestra exploración artística. Superando los límites e inspirando nuevas vías de expresión. La conexión que fomentó con nuestros fans fue increíble y dió forma a nuestro camino de manera profunda. Y aunque lo que hacemos ahora es drásticamente diferente de ese álbum, nada de lo que hemos escrito después hubiera sonado igual sin el.
*A parte del anteriormente mencionado próximo disco, ¿qué planes tiene Celeste para este otoño – invierno?
Tras el lanzamiento de EPILOGUE(S), vamos a seguir haciendo mas y mas shows. Algunos de ellos serán con Will Haven. Lo estamos deseando!
*Y para terminar, ¿os gustaría decirles algo a la gente que os está leyendo?
A todxs los que nos están leyendo y siguendo, queremos expresarle nuestro agradecimiento de corazón por su apoyo. Vuestro entusiasmo por nuestra música alimenta nuestras vidas y nos dá vida. *First of all, how are you? Between the extensive tour that you are doing, the presentation of the last album Assassin(s)and the release of the new single “It is slowly emptying”, it can be said that you do not have a minute of rest
Thank you for asking! Amid the extensive tour, album presentations, and new single release, we’re energized and passionate about the journey we’re on. While it’s true that we have a packed schedule, the adrenaline and connection with our fans definitely keep us motivated and inspired.
*For those people who don’t know you yet, or not enough, how would you describe Celeste?
We’re a French metal band. Our music is a blend of various genres such as black metal, post-hardcore, doom, shoegaze and other stuff. We’re trying to develop very immersive soundscapes. We pour our souls into our performances, aiming to create an experience that resonates deeply with our audience. Our art is kind of a journey through darkness and light. We think our music as something honest, intense, and original.
* In recent years you had the opportunity to play in Galicia on a couple of occasions, how were the experiences? I assure you that around these latitudes your fans are waiting for you again
Playing in Galicia has been a remarkable experience for us. The warmth and passion of the people in the region left a lasting impact. It definitely touched our hearts, and we’re eager to return and share our music over here once more !
*As I mentioned at the beginning, taking a look at the dates of your tour, it can be seen that you are having a busy summer, in which as the «final touch» you will be in our country playing in San Sebastián and in neighboring Porto, in Portugal , in mid-September. Now that we are more than halfway through the tour, can you share any of your impressions to date?
This summer’s tour has been a whirlwind of energy and amazing experiences. We’ve been fortunate to perform at renowned festivals like Hellfest, Full force, Alcatraz, FEQ, where we’ve met incredible artists. Each night, we pour our all into our performance, seeking to forge a connection with our audience. The tour has reinforced our passion for music and affirmed the power of live performances. That’s the reason why we’ve started to play music, and we feel like it’s never been that true.
*Personally, the first time I enjoyed your show was at HELLFEST 2018, and although it went as I expected, that year we couldn’t enjoy your characteristic “red lights”. I felt like there was «something pending» and it had to be in the famous edition of this same festival, which they called «Hellfest from home», where from our homes we could see you playing at the Kingdom of Muscadet, with an ideal setting and already if this time with your characteristic element. But from home, I still didn’t feel like I was fully enjoying what you had to offer.
Until finally last year at RESURRECTION FEST, it finally could be! With your music and your staging you manage to move those who observe you into the depth of your music, delighting those who already knew you, and attracting people who are knowing you at that very moment. And this year at Hellfest it was confirmed again. And now comes the question: What is behind those red lights? What is your story?
We’re glad that you already experienced some our performances, and I agree with you tat conditions are very important to fully experience what we’re trying to share. It’s unfortunately never perfect but Resurrection Fest was a very great live for us.
The red lights have become a symbolic representation of the emotional depth in our music. When we take the stage, we aim to envelop our audience in our sonic universe, and the red lights amplify the intensity and emotion of our sound. They help us convey the darkness and introspection present in our music. We think that they reflects quite well our state of mind. What started as a gimmick became quickly an important part of our imagery
*Since we are talking about festivals and concerts, is there one that has marked you more than any other? What is the craziest anecdote that happened to you while on tour?
While every event holds a unique place in our hearts, RESURRECTION FEST was particularly significant. The energy from the crowd, the connection we felt, and the overall atmosphere made it an unforgettable experience. To be honest we weren’t expecting for anything special, so we were quite blown by how it turned out.
As for a crazy tour anecdote, honestly after touring for almost 2 decades we for sure have plenty, but let’s be honest most are not safe to be told here haha! Let’s talk about one that pops to my mind and that is cute somehow. Let’s say that I’m laughing knowing that many custom’s policemen are wearing our merch all over Europe while having absolutely no clue about what kind of music we’re doing. Only because we had to bribe them to cross the border, and it happened many times in many countries
*Changing a bit of third, the preorder from your upcoming album EPILOGUE(S), which will be released in a couple of months. Can you tell us something about him?
EPILOGUE(S) serves as a continuation to ASSASSINE(S)… It’s quite interesting for us because these 3 tracks are all very different. It was hard to find a place for them in the album, that’s why they are here now, but it doesn’t mean for us that they are weaker. The album would’ve probably been too dense with them, so they’re even better and stronger here in a smaller format.
*You already have a few albums behind you, I’m sure each one has their «baby», the one they enjoy playing the most. If I ask you about your favorite, what would you answer?
Each album is a chapter in our story, and while it’s challenging to choose a favorite, «Morte(s) Neé(s)” holds a special place. It marked a pivotal point in our artistic exploration, pushing boundaries and inspiring new avenues of expression. The connection it fostered with our fans was amazing and shaped our journey in profound ways. Even if what we’re doing now is quite dramatically different from this album, none of the stuff we’ve written after that one would have sounded the same without it.
*Apart from the aforementioned upcoming album, what plans does Celeste have for this fall-winter?
Following the release of EPILOGUE(S), we’re gonna make more and more shows. A few of them will be with WILL HAVEN. We’re quite looking forward to them !
